Tell Me a Story… – A Second Life Tradition

There is an unofficial tradition in Second Life… well, I think I just made it a tradition… :)

There is a tradition in second life… every now and again there will be the opportunity to share a story and tell it to your friend or friends. Stories, even silly made up ones can be comforting in a time of sadness. This is one I conjured up on the fly for a friend who was not feeling his best. I probably stole it from someone one or somewhere in the depths of my brain… you can comment back if you have heard any of it.

dhar-2

I have made up quick stories to tell a few times in Second Life, well, more often these days than in real life. I was able to snag this one and it fits my story challenge so I’ll share the moment. Terry didn’t mind that I did.

(Pardon the spelling… who hasn’t asked or at least dreamed of a spell check for second life?)

That is a gorgeous story..full of meaning I think. Rich imagery and a smooth flow. Reminiscent of Dinesen. Just lovely.

Wow… thank you. In all honesty, I had to look up Dinesen (looks as if there has been a number women who have written under a male pen name). I did see the movie “Out of Africa”… Smiles… You are very kind.

I seem to remember a young elfin boy who had a wonderful way with spinning a tale. I wonder if he would let me publish the story he once shared if I could find it? Or if we could find him, that wearer of green and brown, if he would weave another story of a time where the happenings of the day were more about the heart and less about hate. You think you know where to find him? ;)

As you probably already know from your story telling: a difficulty of typing a tale (and I suspect speaking one as well), is the problem of permanence. Once you type a line, you can’t very well go back and correct something without losing the flow of the story, or distracting the “listener”; unless of course, the correction becomes part of the story itself.

As you can tell by the “talk” at the end of the post, I was still spinning the details of the end of the story in my mind. My thought in that moment was, that for the honest reader, there could only be about two real fitting outcomes to the story.

    Thanks so much -DV
