Mr. Blue and Mr. Yellow: The Eyes Have It
So……. The story of Mr. Blue and Mr. Yellow. The time has come to tell it. -DV

If you have known me in Second Life you know I have two main forms, identities, or avatars. One which I have been for over a year and a half now is my avatar with wings. That image of me has not changed but for her clothes much over the last year and a half. If you have met me in my other form it is of a lioness (lion).
I have a lot of fun roaming the virtual planes with my lion avatar. Different avatars, as you can probably imagine, can bring either a sense of comfort or discomfort to those around them. The lion avatar I find brings a sense of comfort to people, but that is really the subject of a different post.
The lion avatar was some thing I had originally purchased. The original avatar looked much more like a lion. Of course being a girl I don’t wear the big heavy mane, but I did like having a mane, so I keep a small one on my head, which tends to be a little confusing to people for a little while.
I tweaked the avatar, added little bits to it, changing parts of it, and adding others, including changing the colors of the eyes.
I don’t know why I chose one eye blue and one eye yellow. Like the other things I have made or customized it just seemed right. As right as the little daisy flower I wear in my mane, or the white/peachy hair, or the dark read tail. (I also love to chew bubble gum and blow bubbles, as lions can do in virtual worlds… strawberry is my favorite.)
Little did I know that the choices I made for my little lion avatar would make a difference in another part of my life just a couple months later…
The Brothers Fuzzy
Mr. Blue and Mr. Yellow are brothers. They were found traveling together on a street called River Road, which actually does run near a river. They were picked up and taken to the Humane Society. They had seen a bit of traveling, were a bit worse for wear, and it was a wonder that they were still together.
When we headed out that day, then plan was that I would pick up a kitten as a birthday present for myself, I would never have guessed would would have brought home these little seven month olds.
As we wandered the cages at the Humane Society, I spied these two white kitties. One shy and hidden toward the back of the cage. Mr. Blue was not feeling so good and had a kitty cold. Toward the front of the cage, Mr. Yellow was doing his best to find him and his brother a home. As I walked towards the cage at towards these two little boys, Mr. Yellow just came to my hand and told me… “take me home I’m soooo loveable.”
And they were, just sooo loveable. We took them home and the first night they were laying down on us.
Here is Mr. Yellow allowing me a rare frontal picture of his face.
And here is a picture of that feisty and playful Mr. Blue…
Yes… if you don’t know them well enough, they would seem mirror images of each other. Mr. Yellow has the yellow right eye, Mr. Blue has he blue right eye. (We did tell them apart by placing different color collars on them both at the start.)
These two lovable creatures, so tremendously loveable, were obviously bonded still at seven months, and when I saw their eyes… well, I knew these little boys needed a home.
Sick Little Kitties
Things were not completely alright with my little friends. They had been at the Humane Society for about three or four weeks. It took many more weeks at home to get them past their colds. Also we were a little worried that perhaps, one of them, Mr. Blue was deaf (white cats with one blue eye have higher odds of being deaf in either one or both ears.) We later figured out that Mr. Blue is not deaf, he is just fearless.
Felix and Oscar
I had only one “real” pet in my life. Merlin was the coolest cat, born in South Carolina, and traveling with me around the country. She lived a long time I’m told, all of seventeen years. She being the only experience I had at a pet, it was hard to tell what was to come from my two little brothers. And as their colds gave way to energy and excitement, it was so surprising that these two little guys could be so different. I suppose I expected “twins” to be somewhat alike. These two are very much mirror images.
Their Real Names?
They still want to keep their names out of my blog, too young to really understand the power of the Internet. But they did go by the names of Mr. Yellow and Mr. Blue for a while. You see, my parents, who both have English as their second language, could not pronounce their real names. So during their visit a few months ago, my two little kitties, based on their collar colors really became, Mr. Blue and Mr. Yellow…
Just Chillin…
I hope they never lose their bond. Here they are, at about a year and five months old, hanging out together our in our yard. Some how I just think it is the neatest thing. I’m so happy to have them both.
Now if I could get Mr. Blue to stop clawing the furniture…. (I have a plan I’m about to hatch on his little fuzzy butt… he probably won’t be too happy… hehhehehehe…)
Do they really glow like that?
In the sunlight… apparently they do. I had to tweak the color of this image a little to get this much definition of the boys.
We still think Mr. Blue could just be one of those alien pod clones… Stay Tuned.

Animals always seem like the hearth of a home, or community of people. That’s the way I feel around your lion avatar. It’s like being around a real animal friend and she probably lowers all of our blood pressures.
Smiles… Thank you for writing that. It certainly was what I felt. I’m so glad that it is true. It seems that the softness in people comes out more easily when I’m a lion. It is certainly an experience I have really enjoyed from almost the first times I was able to roar…
