Oh I loved him so much. It’s very sad isn’t it? Thank you for marking his life in such a nice way. I got to meet him in 1984 when he was stumping for Walter Mondale. I felt deeply pleased to have shaken his hand (awkward 16 yr. old that I was). Aside from being a great social activist, I always thought of him as a really nice husband who picked a super cool wife. I always loved him for the “Why go out for hamburger when you can have steak at home?” line. There’s just something deeply studly about a principled guy especially if he also happens to be Butch Cassidy.
Wow. You met him, that is so cool. If I had shook his hand at 16 I probably would have melted in the most embarrassing way. I feel my knees get wobbly as I type the words. Smiles…
A sad truth is that if I had shook his hand as an adult, my knees probably would have gone wobbly too but for completely different reasons (and some of the same).
Can’t get much more studly than that…
