In Opposition to Cats…

I was listening to some MP3′s that we are going to discuss at tomorrow’s discussion group (January 6th), and I actually heard something quite cool in one of them.  The presenter mentioned something in the way, and I will get it wrong, but here goes a try at it, he said something like, if you find yourself feeling uncomfortable in something you are doing, feeling that you need to change the situation or yourself, it is probably for the simple reason that you are in opposition to something in that situation.  In a way, it is an idea that is quite simple, yet at this moment thought provoking, especially in regards to the context of not trying to change the environment, or yourself, perhaps just the knowledge of the opposition is enough.  Sounds like an interesting experiment, so I thought I would relate it to cats…

This is Mr. Blue…

Blue

Mr. Blue likes to whine a lot.  He is spoiled incredibly by one of his caring and doting owners, who like to run to Mr. Blue’s crying call.  Mr. Blue is usually quite the loving cat, but his cries will carry through the house and through one’s spinal column.

The Un-comfort?

For sometime Mr. Blue’s cries would annoy me.  I would cry back at him.  Didn’t work.  I made fun of him… that made no difference.  I slowly figured out that I was really in opposition to his noise.  I needed to change my mind.

The Solution

The thought came to me, and now I am totally enlightened.  I have started to hum along to Mr. Blue’s crying.  We now can get a good whine in, in two part harmony.  We really make awful sounds together, but it is so much fun we decide to do it a lot.

Isn’t this just wonderful?

Karma

Well, this is really cool, but something happened the yesterday which left me curious.  You see, I’m a very heavy sleeper, but it seems that the doting owner described earlier said something to me about me and Mr. Blue singing in our sleep.  I thought… WOW that is cool.  The doting owner just mumbled something under his breath.

I asked him, “are you in opposition to something dear?”

I have no idea why he flashed me the single finger symbol of fertility.  I’m just going to chalk it up to quitting smoking.
