Beatles Bootleg Oasis at Our Fingertips

Years and years ago, I loved venturing off to places and searching the less visited spaces and dusty shops.  Some of the older shops in some of the bigger older cities were just amazing places to find just about anything a collecting heart might want.  Back in those days I was a hunter of things music, and most of the time my hunt focused on those things related to the Beatles.

Back then, all those years ago, to find rare recordings was a slow arduous effort.  Almost of learning of one album at a time, one radio show at a time, one contact at a time.  Each new resource lead you to a new person, and to a new treasure trove of rare recordings and videos.  It was a fun time.  Collecting recorded music and its magical cousin the bootleg, was a romantic effort.  These days looking back, I could almost think of it as romantic a pursuit has searching for the long lost unicorn, or the holy grail.  Finding some recordings were almost as life long, and sometimes in this pursuit the grail was actually found.

This weekend my other half and I were looking though some of the cruft that has been collecting on one of our servers.  Of course, from time to time, over the years I had gone back to collecting a bit here and there, and even my other half caught the bug.  What better way to show love to someone who loves rare recordings, than to actually find one or more of them that they had heard long ago?

So we looked through and cleaned out some old commercials and broadcasts, music files and videos. I reminisced of some of my old favorites that I had somewhere on some old LP records and video tape that might still be around.  I thought to myself… you know… there is this or that great song I remember laughing to long ago, found on some video I had once found in NYC back in the 80′s.  From the words I could remember the Beatles were goofing on someone named Enoch Powell, and were goofing on the words “commonwealth”.  The words were un-typically political for the Beatles so they would probably not make any official anthology.

As we chattered about it, I said, “you know someone has probably put that baby out on YouTube by now…”

And there it was… the recording I had thought of, one of which was once a minor holy grail of Beatles boolegs, right there on YouTube for all to see.  It seems a bit more sliced up than I remember. I must say that YouTube is much more convenient than looking through my recordings.

So very cool.   I’ll have to search out some more… now if I could only find the image of that one poster!?!  Smiles…
