Google Going Social?: Web 3.0 and That Fickle Feeling
Google has a bunch of services. One could also certainly say that Google has, with those services, helped to pioneer some of what people commonly think of “Web 2.0” (you can find my early thoughts on the topic here), but social? Google Going Social? Hard to believe the famous but still somewhat geeky Google is plucking its eyebrows, polishing its shoes, and is joining the social set.
Google Profiles
Google profiles? Like MySpace? LiveSpaces? FaceBook? LinkedIn? … … … Can this be? Has Google succumb to the social leanings of a profile page? Well, it appears so. If you don’t believe me, take a look here: http://www.google.com/profiles/DharmaVoyager
Is this new?
It sounds like Google profiles isn’t really new, but they have been slowly growing the idea. Hidden away for a while in the Google attic (now commonly known as the Internet) the idea of profiles seemed to have languished in some dusty corner. Most recently the search and ad gods decided added some functionality to their profile pages, like search (go figure). Actually, adding search may be the step that shows Google is getting serious about getting more social.
Why?? What does it all mean?
What does it mean, Google getting more social?
Oh, who the heck knows. Just when you think you had one too many of these profiles pages, someone else comes along and gives you the grand opportunity for another. I guess since I already use IGoogle and Gmail, I could just wrap things up with a nice profile as a side dish.
Are all these profile sites feeling you fickle?
I don’t know… I think, I may have been thinking that I could REALLY use just ONE MoRe profile page…
Is Consolidation Anti-Social?
If you really need another profile page why not give Google a try? I mean really? Why not? (Well… really… please comment and tell me why or why not.)

Dharma now considers how many abandoned profile pages she has out there… she then thinks of ice cream… nirvana…
